An Overview of Fatigue Testing Systems for Metals under Uniaxial and Multiaxial Random Loadings

This paper presents an overview of fatigue testing systems in high-cycle regime for metals subjected to uniaxial and multiaxial random loadings. The different are critically discussed, highlighting advantages possible limitations. By identifying relevant features, the classified terms type machine (servo-hydraulic or shaker tables), specimen geometry applied constraints, number load acceleration inputs needed perform test, loading acting on resulting state stress. Specimens with plate, cylindrical more elaborated also considered as a further classification criterion. review discusses relationship between input local stress specimen. Since general criterion classify loadings seems not exist, present review—by emphasizing analogies differences among various layouts—may provide reader guideline future equipment.
